Short answer
Record the cutting-head model and revision; identify the ceramic holder or other seat; find original marking or part number; compare thread type, height, seating face, geometry and orifice; verify compatibility in the manufacturer catalogue; then request confirmation from a supplier or authorized service specialist. Thread is an important filter, not a complete description: the same nominal thread does not prove matching threaded length, nozzle height, end shape, cone, seating diameter or permitted assembly.
What the nozzle does
The nozzle shapes gas delivery near the laser-cut zone and belongs to a system of head, ceramic holder, optics, height sensor, gas circuit and process program. Replacing it is not a universal cure for cut-quality problems. Contamination, end-face damage, assembly offset, protective-glass condition, sheet material and thickness, gas, cutting mode and height control may all affect the result. Separate component identification from equipment diagnosis.
The official Precitec shop filters products by nozzle type, thread size, cutting-head compatibility, application and nozzle size. This demonstrates that catalogues use a linked set of fields, not one characteristic; values cannot be transferred to another head without verification.
Thread: the first field, not the final conclusion
Thread eliminates plainly incompatible candidates. It may be stated as a metric size or an inch standard with pitch or threads-per-inch; copy the complete designation and determine whether it belongs to the nozzle, holder, adapter or another assembly part. Do not identify a thread visually or force a component into a seat. Similar profile does not prove matching pitch, diameter or length. With unclear marking, provide photographs of the entire assembly, end face, thread and seat, plus head model. Any needed measurement or removal must follow the equipment procedure.
Height: what the term means
“Nozzle height” may mean overall length, distance from seating face to end face, threaded-section height, or working projection after installation. Do not confuse a geometric nozzle dimension with the working gap between nozzle and sheet, which the head system sets or controls. Confirm reference surfaces and the catalogue field. Nozzles with the same thread and orifice but different height or seating form are not interchangeable. Geometric height is not an instruction to alter cutting-head height, sensor or process settings.
Geometry and seating
Compare end-face form, outside diameter, cone or other profile, seating length, shoulder and holder-contact method, plus single/double channel, orifice shape and execution where shown officially. A photo helps first comparison but cannot reliably establish thread pitch, real height, concentricity or permitted seating. Describe the entire chain: cutting head → ceramic holder → threaded connection → seating surface → nozzle. Catalogues may group products by compatible head or holder, not nozzle shape alone.

Safe selection route
Step 1. Start with the head. Copy marking from body, plate, passport or internal record; list close versions rather than choosing by shape.
Step 2. Record the holder. Show the assembly to which the nozzle connects; the head name alone may be insufficient.
Step 3. Find the catalogue entry. Use the official head/holder catalogue first and seek compatibility, thread, dimensions and application, not merely a name.
Step 4. Compare geometry. Match height, seat, outer profile, orifice type and every manufacturer-defining field; do not invent missing values.
Step 5. Check application. Separate cutting, welding and other products even when appearance is similar.
Step 6. Send a confirmation package. Include marking photos, assembly photo, head model, old-part number and catalogue link; request confirmation of compatibility, not availability alone.
The route helps purchasing collect information; the final compatibility conclusion for an actual assembly belongs to supplier or authorized technical personnel.
How to read a manufacturer catalogue
Treat a search filter as a way to find a group, not a guarantee of interchangeability. Open the exact item and read its compatible range, drawing, variants and warnings. If manufacturer page, distributor page and old invoice conflict, prioritize the current official document and raise the discrepancy. There is no universal list of “laser nozzles”; a correct catalogue is tied to a head, holder or product family.
When a photo helps and when it is insufficient
Photos can show marking, end-face form, approximate profile and difference between parts. For initial research photograph the nozzle alone with a scale, the installed assembly and head marking; do not hide scratches, deposits or deformation. But a photo cannot establish thread pitch, actual height, tolerances, seating condition, material or compatibility with a particular height controller. An unreadable part number requires additional data or specialist inspection—never buy solely because a photo “looks the same.”
Common mistakes
- Selecting only by central-orifice diameter.
- Treating the same thread as proof of full interchangeability.
- Confusing nozzle height with head working height above sheet.
- Determining pitch by eye or testing fit with force.
- Searching by photo without head and holder model.
- Mixing nozzles for different head types or applications.

- Assuming a new nozzle cures every cutting problem.
- Changing height, gas, optics or sensor settings after replacement without authorization.
The last error is particularly hazardous: selecting a spare part is not authority to alter machine parameters. If confirmed replacement is followed by a required adjustment or service action, refer it to authorized personnel.

Limits and safety

Do not force-thread a part, alter the thread, change head height or bypass protective functions to test fit.
What cannot be determined without data
Without head model, holder, complete thread designation, dimensions, part number and official compatibility table, compatibility cannot be guaranteed. Nor can cut quality, optimal orifice, gas use, working height or savings be determined from a component name alone. These depend on head, optics, material, thickness, gas, program and inspection criteria. Mark absent data as unknown and request technical clarification; postponing an order is safer than asserting compatibility from assumption.
